So this little girl at Magic Kingdom the other day was scared of Naveen and only wanted to meet Princess Tiana. So Prince Naveen decided that he was gonna hide in the bushes while Tiana brought the girl over to the canopy to talk to her. I was too busy watching Naveen’s hilarious handsome self derp around in the bushes then all of a sudden he shouts out “Hey Tiana! Look, I’m a tree frog!”
…
PERFECT.

OMG. OK HI NAVEEN.

This was always one of my favorite scenes from the movie. The only thing I did not like about it was that for people who have not read the book, most did not realize that Peter had in fact flown back to visit his mother in what would have been his nursery and experienced this traumatizing event that Hook is describing once before. When his mother was having nightmares, he would sit on her bed and play her a song while she slept. He visited often, but one time lost track of time. When he finally came back, he found the window closed and barred shut. Through the window, he saw his mother, happy with her new baby. Peter never flew back to that window again and from then on had re-occuring nightmares about this event.

Many of my friends never realized why he was so frightened of what Hook said, beyond the obvious idea of losing Wendy. Of course the idea of losing her would terrify him, because in this version he had “feelings” for her, whether or not he would admit it. But this is exactly what had happened with his own mother. Yes he left the real world for Neverland because he did not want to grow up, but that does not mean that he did not miss his mother and go back to visit.

So yes, this scene upsets me every time I watch the movie, not only because he is losing the girl he “loves”, but because in his mind he is re-living his greatest fear and having his nightmares being brought before his eyes as a reality he might have to face once again after she is gone. And I wish that more people knew this little back story because it adds a greater depth and emotion to the scene.
